A 40 Year Inspection ensures that old buildings and establishments are safe both for the business and the people.
Before the recertification, regular inspection of the structural, mechanical, and electrical components of the building – should religiously be facilitated to spot arising issues and provide solutions immediately.
Through the years, safety inspection. is done based on the components above. But sometimes, defects and underlying causes may be missed when the inspectors are not experts in these areas.
To diagnose this issue during inspection, thermography is the key.
Thermography is the science of capturing and measuring surface temperatures using non-contact measurement tools such as infrared video and still cameras. The technology works by detecting heat in the video and using a gradient scale to signify the temperature of the area: Lighter colors reflect warm regions while darker colors mean cooler ones.
Through this, you can detect abnormally hot electrical connections and prevent fire incidents. For mechanical systems, thermography can identify the heat created by excessive friction. In terms of structural purposes, thermography is used to help detect heat losses and air leakage in building envelopes.
Since it is a non-contact technology, videos are recorded in real-time without being in contact with the heat sources. Thus, safety is ensured. If you would like to learn about how beneficial thermography is for your building, contact ML Engineering and Inspection Services. We provide thermography services, along with our all-encompassing 40/50 Year Recertification services.
